Many years after a mysterious ‘blob whale’ began gracing the walls of Cardiff – it has made a welcome return to the City.
After previous very colourful incarnations around the City Centre and Cathays it was decided that they were originally by an artist called ‘Spades’
They have popped up on a route leading from Newport Road, via The Parade and City Road ending up near Albany Road (you can almost trace the route!)
With all the awful ‘goat’, ‘gremlin’ and alleged activist type graffiti throughout Cathays it’s great to see a friendly character gracing the walls again.
These five brothers have been sprayed on a very pink wall on City Road between and ‘Passion online’ and ‘Crafty sew and sew’ – whereas another one looks out from across the road.
Moving towards Albany Road and this one admires a full skip complete with the ‘Vine’ tag rather than ‘Spades’ as per the original batch! Does anyone know if it’s the same artist thats changed his name or whether both create the same character?
Another fills a blacked out window whilst one has also been added to Lembo’s stencil work.
Moving back down The Parade and heading towards the city centre and a few more grace temporary wooden hoardings and a bin outside a church – I wonder what that bin transforms into?
And finally a pair joined together on more temporary hoardings outside the construction work on Richmond Road, just off Newport Road.
Interestingly one suggests that the paint is still even wet!
So after a short break it’s great to see a familiar face grace our City again – let’s hope that it sticks to temporary hoardings and doesn’t over step that very thin line!
Aaaah I love it when people notice the same stuff that I do. My favourite are the ones by Passion! did you grab the ones on Donald St?
Ah I didn’t venture any further on past Albany Road – I suppose I should’ve kept on following the route. Would probably take me directly to their homes!
Yep I do enjoy blob whale spotting!
Are there any others that you have also spotted?
