YEARMIX – DJ Leekee Dance Yearmix 2012

Well it’s that time of the year again when we take a look back at some of the dance hits that were popular (and not so popular) throughout 2012 and mix them all up into one handy chunk – more commonly known as a ‘Yearmix’ (Jaarmix is getting quite popular aswell!)

I personally don’t think 2012 has been a vintage year in the dance music world with the American wave of EDM taking over and flooding the charts with endless David Guetta, Pitbull and Chris Brown productions!
Once you start putting all those tracks back to back and try to mix them up you realise how boring the mix would be so I’ve used them sparingly and tried to make things a bit more interesting by dropping commerical tracks next to a remix with a dubstep/glitchy style – rather than it going all house tracks, dubstep tracks then drum and bass tracks.

In my opinion a yearmix couldn’t and shouldn’t just contain all the highest charting dance records which had crossed over into the commerical market but then I didn’t want to make it that underground that noone knew of any of the records included either.

So it’s a hard line to walk and I hope I’ve pulled it off by featuring some of the bigger hits (insert the word cheese here) you would expect to be featured from 2012 and then also some other tracks that may not have been as popular outside the UK – but still popular in the UK clubs.

The hardest part of constructing the Yearmix is deciding on the tracklisting and which tracks COULD be included in the mix. I usually begin with a few hundred tracks and each one earns it’s way into the mix depending on merit or whether it cleverly mixes with something else or allows me to get to other tracks.
This year I was working with less than 100 tracks that I thought worthy with only around half of them actually making it into the mix. (Is that a sign of me losing my hunger for these mixes or an indication on the quality of decent tracks about?)
