This Building Is Not Silent was a live performance hosted by Shift Cardiff.
Set in the basement of the old Index shop at the Capitol Centre in Queen Street – the scene was set for an interesting soundscape.
The concrete, minimal basement housed two main performance areas with a few more smaller areas dotted around the site.
The duo performed a whole host of sounds that they recorded from the location – where they looped and processed them to create a soundscape of the building – This Building Is Not Silent!
The sounds were taken from the lobby ambience, the lift, the rumbling of buses zooming by to sounds created by the pipework, lighting and even voices.
“An alternative musical score to last nights performance of THIS BUILDING IS NOT SILENT. Based on the principals of the 6 families of noise for the futurist orchestra in Luigi Russolo’s 1913 The Art of Noises, all the sounds recorded in the space where categorised in to a ‘family’, and then plotted geographically to where they were recorded on our site footprint. The colours on the map represent the 5 pieces of music in the performance and encompass the sounds used.” – This Building Is Not Silent Instagram
