Paying tribute to Fernando Pessoa – a Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, publisher and philosopher, described as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language.
Perfectly sited on a wall just off North Street in Bedminster this piece of street art really adds something to the area – and throws in a meaningful quotation too.
“To be great, be whole;
Exclude nothing, exaggerate nothing that is not you.
Be whole in everything. Put all you are
Into the smallest thing you do.
So, in each lake, the moon shines with splendor
Because it blooms up above.”

Created as part of the Upfest festival, held yearly in the area for the last few years – this was crafted by artist Sphiza.
She comes from Portugal and has a very distinctive style – almost a wood chip effect going on here.
Sounds like a really great guy to read into! I’ll have to check out some of Mr. Pessoa’s works.
