STREET ART – Stokes Croft, Bristol.

After a fleeting visit to the demolition of the previous See No Evil streets around Nelson Street (full blog post here) it was time for an even quicker tour around the main street of Bristol’s Stokes Croft area to discover what delights were ready to greet me around every corner.

One of the first properly sunny days of Spring and there was a really happy vibe around the place. People were chilling in bars and life passed on by amongst all the great works that hung on all the street corners, walls and shutters.


Leaving the city centre and this couple were frantically playing a game of table tennis in the sunshine whilst a decorated sports car sat gracefully in the background by Droop.
 

A short walk under the subway via a 3d piece by The Krah featuring a well dressed woman with a sailing boat in her hair, a racoon on her shoulder complete with a fish and mask in her hands! All carefully crafted and painted onto various pieces of wood – an amazing introduction to what else lied ahead.


Hoardings signifying development were decorated with extremely colourful pieces whilst other buildings featured unique work for businesses. (There’s even a WordPress logo in there somewhere!)


First up were these two fighting stags locking antlers by street artiste Rose. A really subtle use of colour and I just love the effect the dripping paint brings.




I’m not entirely sure what to make of a pile of pebbles balancing ontop of each other against the backdrop of the word ‘Holy’ but it was rather striking and did catch my attention.
As did this rather large mural by The Krah (I really appreciate the randomness and bizarreness of what has been painted here!)


The usual street-side facility boxes had been decorated as had many shutters of the outlets that were on the main high street – ‘I love you sweetie’



Another empty building and another fantastic canvas showcasing all the characters from cartoon series Top Cat – Officer Dibble thinks ‘Its a conspiracy!’ It would’ve been great if the bins had actually lined up to reveal each character from a bin!


And then to a great discovery by local artist 3Dom. Oh how I really love to immerse myself in his work – always a bit off the wall but always a message to be found in there somewhere! All those small bits of detail that go into his pieces are truly amazing and that fly gets around quite a bit! 😉


The usual canvasses of walls, doors and shutters had been utilised in Bristol but someone has now been extending the gallery to even the road surfaces! Here the double yellow lines take a detour alerting your attention to ‘Bless Heart Live Life Free’

A discovery of an older piece by local boy CK One and his fantastic use of colour on a rather drab corner.


Even the local massage parlour were getting in on the act….

After seeing some of D7606‘s work in Manchester is was great to unearth some more pieces in a similar vein in Bristol. Not deviating too much from his previous stuff featuring paste ups of celebrities like Twiggy and Princess Diana! ?

And then a few more pieces by Rose brought proceedings to the end!
