STREET ART – Birdseed in Manchester

A rapid walk through Manchester and an attempt to get quickly from Media City UK to Piccadilly resulted in getting four different trams, getting the last train back to Cardiff and getting home at 2am. (boy did I sleep that night!)

Having not visited Manchester in recent years it was amazing to see how much development had taken place, especially in the Salford area but it was great that the graffiti and street art were still apparent throughout the city.

Manchester Graffiti One artist that I came across a few times was only ever signed as ‘Birdseed’ or ‘Mr Birdseed’ but on further investigation it seems his name is Richard Birdseed and has a very distinctive style of drawing showcased here throughout the Manchester area.

First up was his contribution to this huge wall dedicated to the local bike shop.

Down by the canals was an area all fenced off which I was unable to get any closer to see what was actually housed underneath those arches – is there any route to gain access?
A couple of almost Beavis and Butthead-like characters graced the bricked walls under the final shimmers of the setting sun illuminating these cheeky little characters – complete with slogans on their t-shirts.

Moving towards the more traditional (legal) graffiti area of Stephenson Square where I captured two more characters gracing the closed shutters on the shop frontage amongst the early evening streets of Manchester.

The light was beginning to fail now and so were the batteries on the camera – couldnt risk using the flash!
