The eighth Welsh Varsity Boat Race, between Swansea University and Cardiff University Rowing Clubs, took place on the River Taff in Cardiff over the weekend.
Running since 2006 this annual boat race sees students battle for the title of Welsh Varsity Boat Race Champions.
The 2km route began near Penarth Road bridge and wound along the bendy route, passing Century Wharf and ending at Channel View leisure centre.

12:25 Novice Women’s Race – River Closure
13:25 Novice Men’s Race – River Closure
14:25 Senior Women’s Race – River Closure
15:10 Row past at the Millennuim Stadium
15:25 7th Annual Welsh Varsity Boat
16:00 Medal Presentation at CBWAC
On one of the sunniest days of the year so far and many spectators lined parts of the route starting around Penarth Road bridge with other clusters on Clarence Road bridge and many cyclists riding the along with them.
The Swansea Varsity event is the second largest in the whole of the UK with just Oxford and Cambridge being bigger! Other events include cricket and boxing amongst a whole range of other sporting (and non-sporting) activities. The full list of over 20 different sports can be found HERE.
Each race ended at The Channel View leisure complex where many more spectators gathered to watch the day’s events.
