Nestling behind Richmond Road and just off Fitzroy Street are the Trackside Studios in Cathays, Cardiff.
Trackside are a graffiti and aerosol art studio and gallery featuring original aerosol art canvas and screen prints.
A back lane runs between Richmond Road and the railway line (hence the name) and this drab back lane has been given a make-over courtesy of the Trackside Studios and other street artistes.
What first attracted me to venture down this back passage was this piece beneath the walkway on Fitzroy Street. (It does look a bit like David Essex from a distance!)
Stretching the whole length of the lane – each garage door has been carefully decorated mostly with artwork featuring portraits of famous people – can you guess who the people below are?
The amount of hard work and detail that has gone into these portraits is really fantastic and it’s great to have such a free art gallery on show for everyone to appreciate.
In between these are more traditional works of graffiti showcasing the wide range of talents these artists have.
At one end of the lane this old 1980s inspired audio cassette featured on one garage door – with a tag by artist SPK.
This typically dull and drab alley has been transformed into something colourful and interesting – even a facility box has been decorated aswell! ‘Fair play’!
PS I wonder if SPK is a Bluebird? 😉
