Back in February 2012 Whitney Houston was found unresponsive in suite 434 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, submerged in a bathtub. The cause of death was not immediately known but was later ruled by the coroner to have been an “accidental drowning”
The news that the talented singer Whitney Houston had been found drowned in a hotel bathroom was major news and affected many people with heart-felt tributes being paid all around the world – including some from the street art and graffiti collectives.
In March 2012 I was lucky enough to visit America and paid a visit to the 5Pointz graffiti centre in New York. Here I discovered this amazing tribute to Whitney Houston – painted in emotive black and white.

Whilst taking a wander around the rest of the graffiti that the 5Pointz centre had to offer – I saw a man walking towards this Whitney tribute with a bucket and an extendable roller.
To my shock he instantly began to obliterate Whitney from the walk and erase this piece of art that I had only just discovered! I thought it was a tad sad….

Farewell Whitney – your legacy is your music which will live on and on! This was a tribute State-side whereas the following tribute I unearthed just off London’s Brick Lane! Make of it what you will but it reminded me of a cross between 90’s ravers Altern-8 mixed with a CND protest! Only in British art!
