GRAFITTI-New work in Cathays and Roath

It was time to take another trawl around the ‘creative’ areas of Cathays and Roath (ok it’s where all the students live and they seem to accept and produce street art a lot more than the rest of Cardiff!) This time beginning at Cathays Community Centre and some amazing pieces from the locals including a tribute to the late MCA from The Beastie Boys.

Moving further into Roath and some grafitti faces and tags from DMC/DWG/DUC (did we ever clear up exactly what it was supposed to have read?) I haven’t seen anything new from them since this time last year – but you can view the previous stuff here:-

These recent ones seem to have a lot less colour and detail to them but seem to feature more names like King G and Adore (?)

In amongst all of these were some stencils having political rants appearing against the Government, Olympics and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations!

Just off Albany Road and there’s a full length stencil from Lembo of someone (probably) famous – does anyone know who it is? I quite like the way the paint has run on Lembo’s tag!

And it wouldn’t be a Roath/Cathays grafitti trawl without a cat from Lembo!!! And he hasn’t let us down on that front! Nestling next to one of Spade’s blob whales on the end of Salisbury Road. I love GraffiTEA!

  1. It’s DMC, I’m pretty sure. Love the king G tag, got a pic of that the other day! Delighted to see there’s still new stuff cropping up – seems like most walls are getting buffed in prep for the olympics.

Did ask Lembo about that guy, as it’s a huge step up from his usual stuff! It’s the lead singer of a welsh-language grunge band, I think he said.

Keep up the good work x

  2. Welsh langiage grunge band! I’ll have to delve deeper on that front and work out who it is!

Thanks for clearing up the DMC lettering – wonder what it stands for! 😉

Ive noticed that all the stickers around Womanby Street in the City centre have been removed and nearly everything else cleaned up. Cardiff Council are actually doing a decent job in cleaning up the city (proves they can do it when they want!)

I visited Shoreditch in London last week – I was totally amazed by the street art there. Im sure there will be many posts to come showcasing that – the first one up from Malark is now up!
