It was a busy Saturday afternoon in Cardiff City Centre with thousands of people out shopping, many more visiting the City Centre to watch the Six Nations games in the numerous pubs and bars plus the City was hosting the Super League Challenge tournament over two days at the Millennium Stadium with people arriving from around the UK. (It was busy!)
The sun was shining, the sky was blue and it was getting ever closer to 2pm – The Hayes was a mass of people from various backgrounds all going about their normal business – not aware of what was around the corner!
Outside Cardiff Central Library were some Army Cadets pushing around a gun trying to raise money for the RNIB. They began pushing it around The Hayes and up Mill Lane before getting it back to the original position for exactly 2pm. The pumping guitar music from the sausage outlet went silent and people began to remove various items from their bags and prepare an area for them to put their exercise mats down. This is known as a Flashmob and was publicised on the Facebook and the Flashmob website aswell. According to Wikipedia – the term ‘Flashmob’ appeared in 2003 to denote a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment and/or satire
More sombre, relaxing music aired from the sausage outlet and many more people stopped doing what they were doing and began practising yoga in The Hayes.
Some people stopped and watched, some took photographs whereas others carried on their daily business and didnt bat an eyelid!
The Army Cadets were totally bemused and didnt realise what exactly was going on with their performance and collection being momentarily upstaged – I hope overall it did increase the donations to their charity aswell!
For exactly 7 minutes yoga exercises were carried out infront of the Central Library with people watching from above aswell! Everyone quickly dispersed and activity was back to normal as if nothing had ever happened! (video coming real soon!)
