At the start of December 2010 new signs were erected in Cardiff as a tribute to Cardiff City and Welsh International striker Fred Keenor.
Ffordd Fred Keenor was unveiled before the Bluebirds’ game against Preston, in honour of the only player to lead the side to victory in an FA Cup final.
Most new road signs in Cardiff currently seem to be bilingual but this sign is 100% Welsh with no sign of the English translation available. People are calling it Fred Keenor Drive but I always though Ffordd was Welsh for Way rather than Drive – Hence the correct name should surely be Fred Keenor Way?! (They are always Way’s around football stadia ala Wembley Way! 😉
The newly named road leads from Leckwith Road upto The Cardiff City Stadium where eventually a statue will also be erected from monies raised by fans. There is also ongoing construction of a new pub on the corner to be named “The Sand Martin” – answers on a postcard please?!
