Well there’s only 53 days to Christmas (at the time of typing) and Cardiff City Centre is gearing up for a very busy and prosperous festive season. Amid all the chaos last year due to St Davids 2 being completed and this year the numerous repaving and landscaping projects around the rest of the city – it’s hoped that this year’s Christmas shoppers will deliver a well-earned Christmas bonus to all the shops that have been struggling for the last couple of years. Will St Mary Street be ready in time? (Not entirely sure what purpose this street has anymore mind – even the bars are starting to close aswell!)
So I managed to catch two Christmas trees being erected ready for the big switch on – which this year will be on Thursday 18th November.
The official Cardiff Christmas tree used to be transported from Scandinavia somewhere (am I right in thinking Norway or was it Sweden afterall!?) with just one main tree being the centrepiece.
This year there is one on Queen Street, one outside Cardiff Castle, another near The City Hall and one outside The Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay.
Im not too sure if the tradition of having these trees imported from Europe still exists! Does anyone know and if so why?
Hack again?!
Well, this is extremely interesting indeed. Would love to read a little more of this. Nice post. Thanks for the heads-up.
