CCFC-The Stand flying high in the charts?

First the blurb (as we say in The Diff) from Amazon:-
“Cardiff City FC are currently hot news playing to full houses week in week out. Their fans sing the oldest football song in the world; “I’ll Be There” which was sung by Welsh Miners during the General Strike of 1926. The song has now been recorded for the first time by The Stand to raise money for a statue at the ground for the legendary Cardiff City 1927 Cup Winning Captain and Somme Veteran FRED KEENOR. Combining the attitude of The Sex Pistols and the folk punk of The Pogues, The Stand are made up of four well known musicians and actors all brought together by a great cause. Owen Powell was the guitarist and songwriter of Catatonia, one of the best-known bands of the 90’s. Jonny was in the mod indie band The Pocket Devils but left to pursue a successful acting career that has seen him appear in some of television’s best known shows and the film ‘A Bit Of Tom Jones’. Joining them on bass is Guto Pryce from Super Furry Animals, one of the most influential and innovative bands of the last two decades & on drums Ryan Richards from million-selling band Funeral For A Friend.”

Well what else can I add to that – apart from why has Jonathan Owen changed his name to Jonny Owen? Maybe we should call his Storm Jonny from now on?
For people in Wales, well maybe just in Swansea and Cardiff, Jonathan was the presenter of regional football programme ‘Soccer Sunday’ and one of the masterminds behind the internet drama ‘Svengali.‘ JONATHAN CLAIMS HE WASN’T THE VOICE ON TAFF WARS – but im still not convinced on that one!
People may also remember his heart felt item on Cardiff City FC back when we were in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth.

So it seems this track is already NUMBER 1 in the Amazon pre-release download chart and is expected to chart in the UK charts later this week.

Best of luck to everyone involved and lets hope enough money is raised for a decent statue of Fred and to succesfully put another decent Cardiff City footy song in the charts after James Fox-Bluebirds Flying High previously.

One Response to “CCFC-The Stand flying high in the charts?”

  1. I thought the oldest football song was ‘On the ball the city’ the Norwich tune?

Anyway I just downloaded it and I am not even a bluebirds fan. It’s for a good cause and it’s roots in local working class history unlike most of the post Italia 90 soccer am inspired dirge we hear at a lot of grounds these days.
