Sunday 17th October was the date for the Cardiff Half Marathon this year.
There wasnt a sign of any clouds or rain and a bright sunny day beckoned. Some said it was almost perfect conditions for a marathon!
9am and 15,000 runners set off from Lloyd George Avenue in Cardiff Bay and snaked their way around Cardiff City centre, Pontcanna fields and back down to the bay. The full route is mapped here.
Winding around the River Taff, circling the new Cardiff Bay route and across the Barrage – the new 13.1 mile route had some fantastic views for runners and spectators alike.
Due to the clever route design – road closures were kept to a minimum with police on hand to direct the general public.
Many people were running for local charities where the event, organised by Barnardo’s Cymru is expected to generate £500,000 for different charities. Many other people ran in fancy dress! Ok I only spotted one gorilla and one smurf – but im sure there were many more!
A fantastic day was had by all, with everyone now earning a well deserved rest (or beer!), loads of money raised for charity, the crowd showed great encouragment along the route with everyone now starting training for next years! PS its on the 16th October next year!
