Early on a Sunday morning (ok it wasnt THAT early) but I still didnt manage to get up early enough to catch the start of the race! Thousands of runners donned their daps to take part in Cardiff’s 10k Marathon and raise thousands of pounds for charity. The HSBC Cardiff 10K is in support of the Kidney Wales Foundation – a charity dedicated to tackling kidney disease and investing in patient care and well-being in Wales. I could hear the bells of City Hall chiming 10 o’clock in the distance and hear loads of shouting and air horns going off! It mustve been the start of the race and they were off! By the time I had arrived between the City Hall and the Castle the first of the runners had already covered 2 kilometers and thrust past me!
Only moments later and the rest of the competitors galloped past Cardiff Castle and tried making their way through our very own maze in the City Centre. Currently that stretch around the Castle is a total nightmare to navigate – evenmoreso when you got a few thousand runners aswell!
The only celebrity I managed to see was runner Jamie Baulch! He is in there somewhere!
By the time I had covered the distance from one end of the Castle to the other the lead runners were coming up Sophia Gardens and then running against all the other competitors back to the finish line at City Hall. When I spotted them they were currently at 22:59 on the clock and were in this order.
The sun was out but not overbearing and made for a decent days weather with some dressing up in fancy dress costumes. For some the day might have been about beating their personal time but for others it was a fun day raising money for good causes. Well done to everyone!
