This video was created just after I invested in my latest Sanyo Xacti camera and a small Gorillapod to mount it on. A quick bike ride around Cardiff Bay utilising the bike as a mount giving it extra stability aswell. I was fairly impressed with the results but some shots were still a bit shaky due to the exposed areas and prevailing winds. I will definately have to get out there again this Summer and do it all over again!
ENVIRONMENT-World Toilet Day!
Home cleaner brand, Domestos, has teamed up with a few charities to launch ‘World Toilet Day’ on the general public. It is an initiative to help reduce the amount of flushing we do as a nation to save water and resources.
They have set up a website http://www.flushtracker.com where after typing in your postcode the application will track your current flush and plot a map of where the contents are travelling around your local area all in real time – complete with distance travelled and actual speed!
GRAFITTI-Paste-up by Jacob’s Market

Approaching the railway bridge that crosses over the top end of St Mary Street, near Jacobs Market and East and West Canal Wharf, and something caught my attention on the wall.
I couldn’t exactly see what it was at a distance but as I got nearer I could see that there was some elaborate paste-up on the metalwork securing the archway underneath the bridge.
On closer inspection it was an almost Egyptian design with two people sharing a drink in old style goblets – all hand drawn on some newspaper! Does anyone know anything else about it’s origin or meaning? Read more…
VIDEO-Cardiff Bay Speedboat Ride
It was a relative’s Birthday and most of his friends were invited along to ride around Cardiff Bay and the Bristol Channel courtesy of The Bay Island Voyages.
The vessel left Mermaid Quay and headed towards the barrage, where after a small wait for the gates to close and water levels to adjust, they then headed straight out to speed, twist and turn in the choppy Bristol Channel. The kids absolutely loved it and the adults even more so! ![]()
CENSUS 2011-Everyone stuck on Question 17?
Seems like everyone is getting a bit stuck on the tricky Question 17!
TV-Dr Who Filming in Cardiff
Filming for the latest series of the BBC sci-fi drama Dr Who has been taking place on the 7th and 8th of March in Cardiff City Centre.
The numerous facility trucks were all parked up at the Millennium Stadium (DB Unit) – just about as close as they could get to the Wharton Street filming location (DB Loc) where smaller trucks were on standby ready for the shoot.
It was rumoured that James Corden joined Matt Smith and Karen Gillan for some late night filming sessions in the Cardiff back street. I didn’t catch any glimpses of the actors and didn’t stick around for filming to begin either. (twas a bit chilly and late!)
NEWSWATCH-’Police discover crack in bum’
Another week and another humourous headline on a regional website in England. This time featuring the Islington Gazette 24 and their report into the story of a teenager being jailed after a discovery by local police.
The headline read:-
“Holloway teen jailed after police discover crack in his bum”
CARDIFF-Is the Millennium Stadium on fire?

Seems like there was a huge fire in Cardiff on this Sunday morning. From the angle of this photo it does appear to be coming from the Millennium Stadium!
I know they have been working hard with those lamps to prepare the pitch for the next Six Nations match but maybe someone has turned them on too high!? Or the other possibility could be that as James Corden is in town and filming Dr Who at the Millennium Stadium – he’s just setting the place alight with his comedy genius?? Read more…
ROWING-Cardiff Regatta 2011

The ‘Head of the Taff’ event was arranged for Saturday 5th March on the River Taff (can you see what they did there? taff not daff…..!) in Cardiff on a really sunny day (’twas still a bit chilly mind!)
Cardiff City Rowing Club (aka Cardiff City RC) held the event which was to run from 11:00 until 13:00 along a calm River Taff.
The numerous races began alongside Bute Park (just exactly where excavation had been taking place) and ended up nearer Cardiff Bay just past the Channel View leisure centre by the big trunk road that connects both parts of Cardiff Bay together – the course was 3500m in length! Read more…
PROTEST-Budget cuts rally in Cardiff
.

At 11am on Saturday 5th March around two thousand people turned out to show their support for a local rally protesting about the budget cuts being implemented by the current Government across the public sector in Wales.
The march began outside Cardiff City Hall and trawlled it’s way around Kingsway and Castle Street stopping traffic but making their voices heard to the watching public. Read more…
PHOTOS-Canal Parade, Butetown.
Taking a different route back from Cardiff Bay and veering down a slightly dodgy-looking side-street called Canal Parade. (Someone crossed off the obvious letter on the sign for humourous effect – and yes i still titter nearly everytime I see it!)
The street didn’t look particularly inviting and looked quite run down, with some new development on one side but empty spaces on the other with remnants of old industry and buildings. Read more…
St David’s Day 2011
First of all Happy Saint David’s Day or Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus as we like say in Wales…once a year…. when we all become proper welshmen like….mun!
Once again the annual St David’s Day parade took place in the centre of Cardiff featuring children from local schools, musicians, members from SWICA and even St David himself (ok it was David Pietersen in costume – or was he dressed up as someone else?!)
The parade made it’s way from the City Hall and then snaked it’s way through the City Centre ending up in The Hayes for a bit of a twmpath! (A sing-song to the likes of me and you!)
Cardiff Council had made a lot of effort to make the event special with huge Welsh flags adorning the streets in the newly refurbished High Street and St Mary Street with other smaller banners and Welsh bunting around the City Centre. There were also some giant daffodils on certain lamposts around aswell! Read more…
