GRAFFITI-Spades ‘blob character’ used for Referendum Vote poster

Graffiti at railway bridge in Grangetown, Cardiff.
Venturing via a different route in the back-end of town and passing over this ‘well-decorated’ railway bridge – set all alone amongst an area going through huge redevelopment – located between the edge of the City Centre, Grangetown and Cardiff Bay. (Which part of Cardiff would you say this is actually within? answers on a postcard…..)

This bridge was totally covered in various graffiti ranging from tags, stickups, political comment and once again some more of these blob characters that I have unearthed around the City Centre over the past year. Read more…

PHOTOS-Protests over Libya

Libya Protests in Queen Street, Cardiff.
Libya Protests in Queen Street, Cardiff.
Libyan ruler Colonel Gaddafi is battling to retain control of Tripoli and areas of western Libya as protestors gathered around the world as pressure mounts on him and his reign.
Local Libyans gathered earlier in Cardiff’s Queen Street to protest against what is happening in Libya. Mothers and children gathered in the rain and desperately chanted words of support and banners pleading for “Stop the killing,” “no more blood,” and “End the torture.” Read more…

CARDIFF-Lorry gets stuck under railway bridge

Lorry stuck under railway bridge
An articulated lorry got stuck under a railway bridge at the top end of Bute Street yesterday. Around 2:30pm the lorry, laiden with mattresses, approached the 14ft 9 bridge and attempted to pass under but obviously got stuck. No major structural problems have been reported about the bridge and roads were re-opened after an hour – during which the whole of the surrounding area was brought to a stand-still. Read more…

GRAFFITI-Artist response to a previous post!

Naughty stickman!SevernOaks Park RoxeJam Grafitti Update 2011Naughty stickman!

Well after previously showcasing a local graffiti artist’s work on my blog at http://djleekee.wordpress.com/2011/02/10/graffiti-rude-stickman-appearing-around-cardiff/ and it seems that I may have inaccurately christened the character ‘Naughty Stickman’ on the original Flickr photos.
The character can still be seen in various parts of Cardiff – where the latest one i spotted on Elm Street prompted this response from the artist himself! Read more…

Excavation begins in the River Taff

Excavation of River Taff
Excavation of River Taff
Excavation works began in earnest on the River Taff, where it flows under Canton Bridge, in the City Centre of Cardiff this week.

The work is being carried out to deepen the river to allow safe passage of larger vessels which serve the network of stops from Cardiff Bay and Penarth – which stop as far up the River Taff as outside the Bute Park terminus.

In the Summer water levels can be less than a foot in some places – where you can literally paddle from side to side of the river – therefore from this area down to Cardiff Bay this surely won’t be possible in future years. Read more…

RUGBY-Cardiff Blues v Leinster

Blues v Leinster Panorama
Cardiff Blues took on Leinster at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday 19th February infront of a crowd of 10,741 supporters.
The Blues got off to a shaky start with quite a few handling error and Tom James dropping a few balls! Both sides struggled to break away and make an impact in the first half with only a Dan Fish try getting the crowd going and some penalties from the ever-solid Ceri Sweeney.
Leinster full-back, Isa Nacewa, got a penalty just before half-time making the half time score a respectable 8-3 to Cardiff Blues. Read more…

CARDIFF – In reflections

The weather was changeable, sunny one minute then torrential rain the next. So much so, that massive puddles were left around the City which prompted some inspiration and the idea to capture some of the well-known sights ‘in reflection.’ Featuring Cardiff Castle, City Hall and the Millennium Stadium. Well worth a wait for the ‘twist’ ;) Read more…

VIDEO-Flashmob in The Hayes

Yoga Flashmob in Cardiff

It was a busy Saturday afternoon in Cardiff City Centre with thousands of people out shopping, many more visiting the City Centre to watch the Six Nations games in the numerous pubs and bars plus the City was hosting the Super League Challenge tournament over two days at the Millennium Stadium with people arriving from around the UK. (It was busy!)

The sun was shining, the sky was blue and it was getting ever closer to 2pm – The Hayes was a mass of people from various backgrounds all going about their normal business – not aware of what was around the corner!

Stickman Graffiti 2011

GRAFFITI-Rude Stickman appearing around Cardiff

Over the last few weeks a mysterious stickman has been appearing around the suburbs of Cardiff West. With his stick-like body gracing walls from the City Centre, all the way over to Ely and even one near The Cardiff City Stadium. Have you spotted one further afield?
I cannot make my mind up whether he is smoking a spliff or is giving a rude gesture with a certain finger?
Some of these beauties also contain the tag DIS and maybe Soliks – does anyone know anymore about the artist? Im not even sure I can decypher the tags that brilliantly!
Stickman has been appearing everywhere including walls, garage doors, post office boxes and even the odd bus stop! (well before Adshel instantly removed it!) Coming to a wall near you soon……….

Wales v England 2008

VIDEO-Wales v England Six Nations rugby

Another Wales v England game over and another game of “shouldve tried harder”, “it was there for the taking” and “Wales shouldve/couldve won that one”

It wasn’t a classic battle at all with the might of England not making as much an impression as the bookmakers would lead you to believe. I think the whole contest is wide open with anyone being able to win it this year! Just look at Italy’s performance against Ireland on the opening weekend!

Anyway, this years Six Nations opening match at the Millennium Stadium brought back many memories of an amazing victory over England back in the 2008 campaign. Here’s a little video that I made at the time. For some reason there are certain phrases that Eddie Butler says that still sends shivers down my spine now! Enjoy!

Cardiff ‘Survival’ – Vintage advertisements around Canton

The Guardian Cardiff website runs a Flickr photography group where a subject is chosen and people are free to submit photos to satisfy the brief. It’s all for a bit of fun and following on from other groups like ‘Thing A Week’

One of the themes chosen for the latest installment of the ‘Project Document’ is ‘Survival.’ The only other brief is that the photos have to be taken in or around Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
