WALK-Blaen Y Glyn near Brecon

Blaen Y Glyn
Twas Saturday 29th January and the 4 week alcohol-free detox was coming to an end. What else better than to arrange a leisurely walk around some mountains on a bitterly cold day with temperatures hovering around minus 4oC!

Funghi

Funghi in my bathroom

Bathroom scuttHaving moved the shampoo bottle in the shower – i noticed something plasticky and rubbery lurking behind it! I had to double take as I had absolutely no idea what it was. I initially thought it was a slug – but how on earth did it get there? So to describe what it was actually like – I’d say it was like a mini seaweed thing mixed with some funghi. It almost looks like some piece of fake set from Lost In Space or Doctor Who from the 1970′s. I then checked the other corner of the shower and there was another one. Looking at the overall state of the shower I couldnt believe how minging it was with mold also apparent on one of the walls too. I can’t believe i’ve let it get into this state without taking any action!

MASHUP-Black Eyed Peas-I gotta feelin (DJ Leekee Garage Mix)

Taking the fantastic track from The Black Eyed Peas (ok its a bit overused but it’s such a classic already) and mixing it up with some UK garage from Wile Out and some piano madness from David Guetta! Result! I originally featured a short version of this in my Dance Yearmix 2010 and thought I’d try and turn it into a full length track. Maybe a few more mashups with inspiration from the Yearmix to come soon!

GRAFITTI-Tributes paid to ‘Gorf’

Flickr user Walt Jabsco announced on his feed that local grafitti artist know as ‘Gorf’ had passed away on January 14th.

“It’s with great, great sadness and a heavy, heavy heart I have to announce that Gorf/Hasl/Anoy, one of Cardiff’s most recent, prolific writers, passed away on 14th January in Portugal.

Sympathies go out to Family and Friends from the Cardiff Graffiti Flickr group

RIP”

This was the last piece from Gorf that I managed to photograph during the heavy snow plus also a tag from next to the Tuck-in Cafe in Canton.

VIDEO-Hong Kong Holiday

Thought it was about time to stick the holiday video up from Hong Kong! It’s split into four separate videos (for some reason) so starts with general shots of Hong Kong and the longest elevator in the world (possibly!) Also some great shots from the hotel windows and a never ending ride on their tram systems! Then it was off to Ngong Ping cable cars – the highest in the world (possibly!) and off to meet the biggest Buddha in the world (and you get the idea with that!)

CarolineStreet

Is it Chippy Lane or Caroline Street?

Since Craig Bellamy was arrested in January 2011 for an alleged fracas that occured outside Eden Lounge on Caroline Street – the national press jumped on the story and began naming the street CHIPPY ALLEY! In the last ten years in Cardiff it seems that the original name of Caroline Street has been superceded by the term CHIPPY LANE but never Chippy Alley!

I’m certain most people who have lived in Cardiff all their lives, have, and will continue to call the street CAROLINE STREET. It seems that Charlotte Church made the phrase CHIPPY LANE famous in the late 90′s when she was synonymous with being a bit drunk after a few ‘cheeky vimtos’ with Henson along with some other rugby players being (allegelly) involved in other fracas on the street aswell.

Council Flood Measures on River Taff

The council implement new flood watch measures.

Well after only one days worth of (decent) rain it seems that the rivers of Cardiff have filled up pretty damn quickly and are now practically full and flowing very fast! Both the River Ely and Taff are affected with official flooding warnings being issued for parts of the River Ely this morning by the Environment Agency.

But this was the scene at the Gabalfa bridge crossing the River Taff in a relatively dry 2010.

PHOTOS-Graffiti around Cardiff, January 2011.

A quick walk around Canton and my first bike ride up the Taff Trail to reveal some new graffiti for 2011. I found some really cracking pieces and also some more mundane tags!
First up some stick-up from D-Fault just off Queen Street in the City Centre.

PHOTOS-Ffos Las Race Meeting

It was Tuesday 27th December, straight after the Christmas period, and the annual festive race meeting at Ffos Las was on. The previous week’s weather had hampered conditions which resulted in the Boxing Day Cheptow fixture being postponed but better conditions out West meant the day’s event were still on – even after many inspections.

PHOTOS-Frozen River Taff outside Millennium Stadium

It was one of the coldest snaps on record with temperatures reaching minus 17oC in some parts of Wales whereas in Cardiff it was a tropical minus 8oC!!
The snow came but wouldnt budge and even our local lakes and rivers began to freeze! Some pictures of a rather frozen Roath Park Lake HERE but below are some pictures of the River Taff beginning to freeze over right outside the Millennium Stadium. Of course this is a free flowing river so I’d doubt that it would ever fully freeze over – but you never know! The birds just seemed content in watching the river flow by!
